Balinese American Dance Theatre, also known as BALAM Dance Theatre, or BALAM was founded in 1979 by choreographer, CUNY Professor, and Movement Researcher Islene Pinder to bring the detailed skills of Balinese dance/theatre to western audiences.
ABOUT THE BUMBLEBEE DANCE
The Oleg Tambulilingan or Love Dance of the Bumblebees is a popular traditional Balinese dance duet presented in Bali at festivals and holidays. Choreographed by the famous I Ketut Marya or Mario in 1952, this charming duet is rooted in the exciting gong Kebyar gamelan style that swept across Bali in the 1930s, as well as presents the choreographer’s creative response to the glamorous aura seen in Hollywood musical film genre.
